MSU looking for better luck from beyond the arc

The Moneyball Pro Am hit week three of the summer tournament. On Tuesday, the Spartans were graced with some fun match ups as we watched Teng vs Fort face off on Tuesday. Each player led their team in scoring, but Fort’s Team Snipes ended up with the victory. We all know there is very little defense but Fort did pick the pocket of Teng at one point and drove down the other way for a dunk. Fort finished with 26 points and Teng with 19. The Teng and Fort contribution this season will be interesting to keep an eye on. Fort has been lighting up the scoring but what does that scoring look like when leveling down to reality when defense is presented will be a major question to answer.

Team Motorcars headed into a matchup against Team Tri-Star Trust as undefeated. With 32 points from Jeremy Fears and another 25 points from Carson Cooper, Tri-Star was able to hand Cam Ward and Coen Carr their first loss. Carr, of course, had a barrage of dunks including a through the legs windmill all while putting up 39 points. Cooper vs Ward on the floor was probably the most intriguing thing to watch. Cooper has looked good thus far, even woking on that 3 ball. His defense though, in a tournament that doesn’t play much of it, helped hold Ward to 18 points. Tri-Star may be a potential title contender and could very well be facing Motorcars in that game.

One of the craziest things going on in this tournament is the number of three point attempts going up by Carson Cooper. This is definitely intriguing and makes you wonder if there is some plan in place and this tournament is to get some work done on the perimeter. We all remember the 3 point struggles of last year so perhaps its a try everyone approach. I will be curious to see where this goes. Fort and Teng have been connecting pretty solidly and if they are able to continue this against tougher defenses MSU will have an ability to put more points on the board. This may be necessary having lost some of last seasons best defenders.

Team Faygo with Jaxon Kohler and Divine Ugochukwu managed a one point victory over Team Case Credit Union. Both scored below their average but kept the team a game behind the first place teams.

Thursday’s games had Team Motorcars facing Team Faygo, Team SPS facing Case Credit Union and Tri-Star facing Team Snipes. More discussion on those games later.

With just a handful of games left, who are you hoping to see in the final? Leave a comment with your answer.
