Going into this offseason, it was clear that Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball would have to make moves with the roster. There are just two new players coming from the high school ranks. With Jaden Akins , Frankie Fidler , and Szymon Zapala all graduated and freshman star Jase Richardson is off to the NBA. Not to mention, several players went in the portal . Moves had to be made for the Spartans.
Coach Izzo found the first piece of the puzzle in a wing player and a 41-percent three-point shooter this past season from Florida Atlantic. That player is Kaleb Glenn , who has plenty of ties with some guys already in East Lansing. Michigan State basketball was able to get the six-foot-six wing without much heavy publicity in the pursuit of him.

Michigan State Lands Athletic Wing from FAU in Transfer Portal
Kaleb Glenn Joining Spartans Via Transfer Portal
Glenn comes to Michigan State after averaging 12.6 points and 4.8 rebounds in 25.8 minutes last season for the Owls. Some might question his addition. Given that he’s a wing, and the Spartans seem to be pretty full there with Coen Carr returning. Plus, both of the incoming freshmen could see time at that spot. The Spartans needed to address the three-point line, especially since the team’s three top shooters are gone. Akins and Richardson are moving to the next level and Tre Holloman is in the portal. That department had to be addressed, especially since they statically were one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the country in 2024-25.
Richardson proved to be clutch down the stretch from deep in the run to the Elite 8 for the Spartans, and Glenn’s three-point percentage mixed with the amount of threes he takes during a game was a big reason for the add.
Old Teammates Reunite
It has been an interesting journey for Glenn, as he started out at Louisville in his freshman season under Kenny Payne. That didn’t work out, and he found his way to FAU. Now, Glenn will have a chance to play in the Big Ten and team up with an old friend. Michigan State’s starting point guard, Jeremy Fears Jr , played on the same AAU team as Glenn, the Indy Heat, when they were in high school.
Not to mention, they both had ties to La Lumiere School in La Porte, Indiana. That is where Coach Izzo famously landed NBA All-Star Jaren Jackson Jr . back in 2017.
Glenn’s Role and More Portal Work
It will be interesting to see what Glenn’s role will be for Michigan State. He made it clear when talking with MSU Insider Stephen Brooks for MSUTailgate.com that he’s ready and willing for whatever role Coach Izzo sees fit.
” Whatever coach needs me to do. If I have to come off the bench this year, I have experience doing that, so I’ll be prepared for it. Whatever the role is, I’m ready,” Glenn said.

It’s a great first get for the Spartans, but they certainly have to do a little more work in the portal. This team needs another ball-handling guard who can score. I’m not counting out Tom Izzo at all. He’s proven he can still get things done. Finding another guard still has to be at the top of the list.
