An early look at MSU’s potential path through the tournament and odds to win it all
The bracket is out and our Michigan State Spartans did not have to wait long to see our position. MSU is the #2 seed in the South Region, the same region as overall #1 Auburn. Our first-round opponent is the Bryant Bulldogs of the America East conference. The Bulldogs bring their 23-11 record, a regular season championship, and a conference tournament championship to March Madness.
Elsewhere in our region is the aforementioned Auburn Tigers, Iowa State at #3, Texas A&M at #4, and um at #5. Michigan State’s potential 2nd round opponents are #7 Marquette and #10 New Mexico.
The Spartans will open up tourney play on Friday in Cleveland. If they win that game, they will play again on Sunday.
If MSU makes it to the 2nd weekend, those games will be in Atlanta
What do you think about our region?
The rest of the bracket features Duke, Houston, and Florida as the other #1 seeds, as expected. The other 2-seeds are Alabama, Tennessee, and St. John’s.
Early odds from FanDuel are already out. MSU is favored by 18.5 points in their opener against Bryant.
MSU’s odds for tearing down the nets in San Antonio are +2800, which is tied for the 8th best odds. The favorites are the four 1-seeds Duke (+320), Auburn (+450), Florida (+450), Houston (+750). After that, the other teams above MSU are Tennessee (+1400), Alabama (+1600), and Texas Tech (+2300). St. John’s and Iowa State have the same odds as the Spartans.
