Spartan legend to serve a three year term
Former Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio was one of five new members named to the College Football Playoff committee yesterday.
Other new members joining Dantonio are Maryland athletic director Damon Evans, Middle Tennessee athletic director Chris Massaro, former Mississippi player Wesley Walls, and writer Ivan Maisel. Each new member will serve a three year term.
Another former writer, Steve Weiberg, will remain on the committee and serve the last year of his term.
Other returning members are Miami, OH athletic director David Sayler, Virginia athletic director Carla Williams, Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yuracheck, former Nevada athletic director Chris Ault, former Oregon State and Nebraska coach Mike Riley, and former Arizona State player Randall McDaniel.
Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades has been promoted to committee chair and replaces Michigan AD Warde Manuel.
I don’t know if the world could have handled it, but perhaps it’s a shame Dantonio didn’t get to work on Manuel’s committee. That could have been fascinating. Imagine, “It’s not over Warde, we’re just getting started.”
Anyway, congratulations to Dantonio and let’s see if he can help make some sense of all this for the next few years.
