Former football coach receives honor along with 5 other Spartan greats
The winningest coach in Michigan State football history is now receiving the highest honor from the school’s athletic department. Mark Dantonio is going into the Michigan State Athletics Hall of Fame. This will be the third HoF induction for Dantonio as he has also previously been enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame and the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame. Both of those honors came in 2024, and this one completes the Hat Trick. I suppose maybe the Cotton Bowl could honor him for the epic comeback in the 2014 game that gave us one of the all-time hits.
The induction ceremony will occur on Friday, September 12. Other inductees in this 2025 class are:
-Sam Vincent (Basketball; 1981-85)
-Tony Keyes (Soccer; 1966-68)
-Kori Moster (Volleyball; 2011-14)
-Caroline Powers (Golf; 2009-13)
-Nick Simmons (Wrestling; 2001-07)
Dantonio will be the 5th head football coach and 22nd coach overall inducted into the MSU Hall of Fame. The previous football coaches were Ralph Young (1923-27), Clarence “Biggie” Munn (1947-53), Duffy Daugherty (1954-72), and George Perles (1983-94). Dantonio was MSU’s coach from 2007-19 during which time he became the winningest coach in program history, breaking Daugherty’s mark.
Say what you will about his final couple seasons at the helm, but this honor was certainly an inevitability. Congratulations, Coach Dantonio. Thanks again for “Little Giants”, “He has trouble with the snap”, the 2014 Rose Bowl championship, and many other great memories.
