Jaxson Dart Breaks Silence on Giants Firing Head Coach Brian Daboll

November 28, 2025 by Heavy

For the first time since suffering his concussion, New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart addressed the media today after practice.

Before he spoke, Dart wanted to discuss the firing of former head coach Brian Daboll, and spoke glowingly about their short time together in New York.

“I just want to open with something real quick. Obviously, there’s been a lot that’s happened since I’ve been up here,” Dart stated via the New York Post’s Ryan Dunleavy.

“I just want to acknowledge coach Dabs (Daboll) and all that he did for me. When I look back on everything, it’s really special to come to a place where a coach genuinely cares about you and loves you and you have that personal relationship on and off the field.”

“I just have all the respect in the world for him. I think he’s an incredible offensive mind. This business is a beast, man. I have to give a shout-out to Coach Shane (Bowen) as well. Unfortunately, we just weren’t able to get enough wins for them.”

Jaxson Dart and Brian Daboll’s Relationship

It’s no secret that Dart and Daboll had a special relationship.

The Ole Miss product spoke openly about the support and belief he got from Daboll since being selected 25th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.

After Dart’s first start and victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on September 28, he credited his head coach for giving him the starting nod.

“Me and Dabs just have a special relationship. He’s the guy that believed in me from day one. I think it does say a lot that he made the decision and had the confidence in me,” Dart said via ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.

“Even just giving me the ball in those situations on a third down to make a play. I know that when you have a coach who you know has your back, I’m going to go out there and do everything I can for him to win.”

Unfortunately for Dart, the New York Giants did not show enough over their next six games for Daboll to keep his job.

Jaxson Dart Exceeding Rookie Year Expectations

While fans can fault Daboll for a lot over his tenure as head coach of the New York Giants, Dart is not one of them.

When he was selected in this past April’s draft, Russell Wilson was expected to be the starter for the entire 2025 season, with Dart serving as the backup as he learned and developed as an NFL quarterback.

But the Ole Miss product was way ahead in his development, and Wilson’s poor play led to an early debut for Dart.

Before his injury, he was the odds-on favorite for Offensive Rookie of the Year.

In only seven starts, Dart completed 62.7% of his pass attempts for 1,417 yards, tossing 10 touchdowns to only three interceptions.

His legs are a threat as well, with the rookie averaging 5.6 yards per carry and running in seven touchdowns.

The future is bright in New York thanks to Dart, and Daboll’s mentorship in training camp and the first half of the season has to be credited.
