No surprise here
Jase Richardson told ESPN today that he will enter the 2025 NBA draft.
Richardson is a projected lottery pick who averaged 12.1 points and shot 41.3% from three point range as he saw his role increase in his lone season at MSU.
Here is the statement from Richardson:
“I’m incredibly grateful to my teammates and coaches for the season we had,” Richardson told ESPN. “After evaluating everything with my family, this was the best decision for me. We had so many incredible moments as a team. Even though we didn’t go as far as I had hoped in the NCAA tournament, this is exactly how I wanted my freshman year to go. Winning the Big Ten championship and making the Elite Eight for the first time since 2019.”
While Spartan fans were certainly hopeful that Richardson would return for another year, this comes as no surprise given Jase’s improvement and contributions throughout the year.
Richardson’s departure, along with Tre Holloman’s shocking decision to enter the transfer portal shortly after MSU’s regional final loss to Auburn, means that Jeremy Fears Jr. and Kur Teng are currently the key pieces to the Spartan backcourt for next season. Fears made a huge leap this year after his freshman season was cut short due to a gunshot wound and Teng is a talented prospect but Michigan State will need to look to the transfer portal for more guard depth next year.
Thank you, Jase, for a great season!
