TOC is about to look very different
Happy August, TOC. Spartan football season begins four weeks from today. Tomorrow we will be kicking off our season preview series. We will begin with our positional breakdowns, then do a light schedule analysis, and we will wrap up with our season predictions before getting into a more in-depth look at the opener against Western Michigan on August 29.
But before we get into all that, a few words on the changes coming to The Only Colors, and all SB Nation sites. In case you have not seen the post that went out last week , our homepage will adopt a new appearance on August 5. This is part of a change to the backend system that we are going to be using to write the articles. As part of this change, there will also be a new log-in system.
Let me start by addressing a question many have been asking. Your comment histories will not be erased; everything is being migrated to the new system. This, at least, is what I am being told, and until I see otherwise, I will believe that. And if any of you experience any issues, you can contact support@sbnation.com for assistance.
The new appearance will hopefully receive your approval, even though many of us fear change. The homepage will now feature two distinct sections. The first will be what you are familiar with, a display of the articles written by the staff with the most recent ones showing first. What will be new is a new “feed” section that will be where anyone can put up a quick headline. I am being told this section will have a very Reddit-like feel for those of you who are familiar with that website. I have not seen what it will look like exactly, but I hope that after a day or two, you will all be used to it and won’t even remember the old format.
Now, onto something else. I am excited to introduce The Only Colors’ newest writer. Thank you to all who applied for the open spot. While we are going to miss Brian’s work, particularly his excellent statistical analyses, I am confident in saying that you will all be excited about what our new guy will bring. I have asked him to write a few words to introduce himself. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you Lucas Holubar!
Hello everyone! My name is Lucas, and I am pumped to be joining what is already a wonderful staff here at TOC. For a little background on me, I am a current college student and football player at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland (conveniently also nicknamed the Spartans). I come from a long line of Michigan State Spartans and, despite growing up in Evanston, Illinois, made many drives to East Lansing for football and basketball games.
As much as my heart is on the banks of the Red Cedar, my football career (as an undersized quarterback) had other plans in my college decision. I still am an avid fan of MSU athletics: I have stayed up to date through frequenting TOC articles and comments, made trips up to Spartan Stadium during bye weeks, and started multiple “Go Green, Go White” chants at MSU basketball’s first weekend NCAA tournament games this past March. Some of my other favorite games I’ve seen in person include the 2015 Senior Day football blowout win versus Penn State (think Jack Allen rushing TD), and basketball’s amazing 27 point comeback win over Northwestern in 2018.
I am incredibly thankful for this opportunity to stay even better connected with the teams and community that mean so much to me. I can’t wait to get started. Keep an eye out for a return of postgame film breakdowns and an increased social media presence this fall! Go Green!
Welcome to the team, Lucas!
Enjoy your Friday and make sure to check back in tomorrow for our preview on the defensive line.
