The Spartans are on the road in week 4. Here’s what you need to know.
Our Spartans are 3-0 as they head back east this weekend to wrap up their non-conference schedule. Their opponent, Boston College, is 2-1 and were ranked a week ago prior to their loss to Missouri. Can BC get back on track against an upstart MSU team, or can Jonathan Smith get his team to 4-0? We’ll find out tomorrow.
Michigan State at Boston College
When: Saturday, September 21 @ 8 PM EST
Where: Alumni Stadium; Chestnut Hill, MA
TV: ACC Network (ACCN is an ESPN channel, so if you have any cable or live tv streaming subscription with the ESPN networks, you should be able to watch this game.)
Radio: Local listings , online or on the app
Betting: Boston College -6.5; over/under 45.5
Predictions:
Brian: Tough one. The BC attack looks pretty balanced. Our front 7 can help shift that. We’ll see how well our O-line can hold off pressure and make holes… The BC DBs have 12 passes defended already, so Chiles will need to play cleanly – everyone will. BC hasn’t attempted a Field Goal all season, they’ll be fired up for the Red Bandana game, but so will we. 27-21 MSU.
Steve: Turnovers and o-line will be our kryptonite. 28-17 BC.
Mike: Tough one indeed. These things have happened in each game:
1. Double digit penalties
2. Very inopportune turnover(s) from Chiles (negated by a penalty against Prairie View)
3. Long term or season-ending injury
4. The Spartans sticking together as a team and overcoming their mistakes/misfortune to win.
Are 3 games enough to say these are trends? It seems like if the Spartans can’t cut down on their mistakes – by a lot – then they can’t expect to keep winning. Eventually it catches up. Even if they do clean things up, and manage to escape another serious injury, they could still lose to BC. What’s going to happen Saturday? I have no idea. But I do like the resiliency of this team so far and I don’t want to be ridiculed by O and Brian again. So, Steve, you’re on your own. 24-23 MSU.
O: I got to do a 5Qs for Boston College’s site, BC Interruption. You can read it here . I am saying our perfect season continues, as we come away with a 30-27 victory.
Enjoy the game. Game thread will open 2 hours before kickoff.
GO GREEN! GO WHITE!
