Gunner Stockton Predicted to Join $255 Million Super Bowl Champ in NFL Draft

January 1, 2026 by Heavy

Gunner Stockton’s NFL draft projections may surprise fans as the Georgia quarterback is largely absent from mock drafts. Stockton is expected to return to Georgia for 2026, but the quarterback has not made an announcement about his future.

Dawgs fans may have received a hint about Stockton’s plans when Jared Curtis, the nation’s No. 1 quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class, flipped from Georgia to Vanderbilt. It is believed that Curtis wanted to play immediately during the next college football season, and Stockton’s presence would have made that a challenging reality.

There is one NFL mock draft that projects Stockton as a potential late-round pick. FanSided’s Patrick Rifino predicts the Philadelphia Eagles will select Stockton in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL draft.

“Stockton walked during Georgia’s Senior Day, which sparked discussion about whether he would use his final year of eligibility,” Rifino wrote in a November 27, 2025, story titled, “Eagles signal end of A.J. Brown with shocking 2026 mock draft.”

“I wouldn’t have the Eagles going back-to-back years of drafting a developmental quarterback; however, with Kyle McCord nestled on the practice squad and not wowing the staff, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Philadelphia draft a late-round QB. The Eagles also have Sam Howell , who is a free agent after the season, and Tanner McKee , who has one more year left on his rookie contract.”

Let’s dive into Stockton’s NFL draft stock.

Gunner Stockton’s NFL Draft Rumors: The Georgia QB Is Widely Projected To Go Undrafted

While Stockton is expected to return for the Dawgs in 2026, the quarterback’s decision to walk during Georgia’s Senior Day at least calls into question his future in Athens. Smart money is still on Stockton returning to be the Dawgs QB1 in 2026.

Yet, it will be interesting to see if a strong College Football Playoff run could help improve Stockton’s stock. For now, Stockton is largely going undrafted in 2026 NFL mock drafts.

Could the Eagles Be a Fit for Georgia QB Gunner Stockton?

If Stockton did declare for the 2026 NFL draft, the Eagles would be an interesting fit. Fresh off a Super Bowl run, Jalen Hurts is clearly the Eagles franchise quarterback.

Hurts is on a five-year, $255 million contract that is slated to run through 2028. Stockton could be a good developmental quarterback to learn behind Hurts.

Heading Into the College Football Playoff, Gunner Stockton Has Posted 28 Total Touchdowns

Heading into the College Football Playoff, Stockton threw for 2,691 yards , 23 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 70.7% of his passes. Stockton also added 442 rushing yards and eight TDs on the ground.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has been backing Stockton even when the quarterback was a relative unknown in the college football world. After Georgia’s comeback victory over Tennessee earlier this season, Smart explained what makes Stockton so special.

“… I still want him to trust the pocket and stay in there, but that’s who he is,” Smart said of Stockton back in September, per USA Today. “I think we are going to evolve with him, where we can scramble and make some big-time plays, and he’ll keep his eyes downfield when he scrambles.”
