Can Michigan State get their 3rd straight win against a ranked opponent?
Since that early February slump, the Spartans have gotten themselves on a little winning streak. They have won their last three games, two of which were on the road, and the most recent two against ranked teams. As a result of all this winning, Tom Izzo and company find themselves in first place in the Big Ten with four games remaining in the next twelve days.
The first of those four games is tonight, as MSU gets on the road again, this time to Maryland to battle the Terrapins, a ranked team who still has a mathematical chance at the B1G regular season championship. This is arguably the toughest of MSU’s remaining games; two others are also against ranked teams, but those two will be played at the Breslin, and the other remaining road game is against lowly Iowa. A win tonight would all but make the conference race a two-team contest.
So can MSU continue their winning ways? Hopefully you all have read Mike’s Preview by now and know a little bit about tonight’s opponent. Vegas has picked the Terps to win, with the line set at -4.5, and the over/under at 149.5. I am predicting that the game will hit the over and that MSU just squeaks this one out, tearing an 81-79 win from the Terrapins. The game tips off at 6:30 PM ET on BTN.
What do you think will happen?
Not to be forgotten, the MSU Women’s Basketball team will also be playing tonight, with their game starting 30 minutes after the beginning of the men’s game. The Lady Spartans are also on the road tonight against a ranked adversary, this time the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Buckeyes, currently 11 spots higher on the rankings than the Spartans, are 4.5-point favorites. This game will be on BTN+ at 7 PM ET.
