Curt Cignetti’s Daughter Reveals His First Reaction to Championship

January 20, 2026 by Heavy

The Indiana Hoosiers and head coach Curt Cignetti were able to pull off a perfect season with a hard-fought 27-21 victory over the Miami Hurricanes in the college football National Championship on Monday night.

Despite facing a late scare from Carson Beck and the Hurricanes, the Hoosiers were able to do just enough to win it all.

Cignetti, who has become one of the top head coaches in the nation in just two years at Indiana, is known for his lack of emotion during games. He always strives for perfection. Fans have come to enjoy his death scowl on the sidelines.

With that being said, it was clear that Cignetti was emotional after the Hoosiers’ win in the title game.

Following the game, Cignetti’s daughter, Natalie Cignetti, took to social media to share her dads first reaction to winning a National Championship. He was an extremely happy head coach.

Curt Cignetti & Indiana Aren’t Going Anywhere Anytime Soon

Heading into the offseason, there will be questions about whether or not Indiana can be a contender once again next year.

Fernando Mendoza is expected to leave the Hoosiers for the 2026 NFL Draft. He is widely expected to be the No. 1 overall pick by the Las Vegas Raiders . Losing him will be difficult to replace, but Cignetti has already put in work on that front.

Josh Hoover has committed to Indiana in the transfer portal. During the 2025 season with the TCU Horned Frogs, Hoover completed 65.9 percent of his pass attempts for 3,472 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. He also scored two more touchdowns on the ground.

Along with the commitment from Hoover, Cignetti has added to his offense with wide receiver Nick Marsh and running back Turbo Richard. He has already added players to keep the Hoosiers in contention.

As long as Cignetti is leading the way, Indiana is going to have a chance. His work ethic and attention to details are unquestionable and will always give the Hoosiers a leg up on the competition.

What Is Cignetti’s Contract Status With the Hoosiers?

In the middle of the 2025 college football season, Indiana made an elite decision regarding its head coach. The Hoosiers went ahead and extended Cignetti.

Back on October 16, 2025, Cignetti inked a deal that will keep him in town through 2033. He will also be paid handsomely for his troubles, with the deal paying him around $11.6 million annually.

After the deal was agreed to, Indiana University President Pamela Whitten spoke out with strong praise for Cignetti.

“At Indiana University, we are committed to performing at the highest levels in everything we do, and no one has exemplified that more than Coach Cignetti,” Whitten said .

“Put simply, Cig is a winner.  From last year’s College Football Playoff appearance to this year’s top-3 national ranking, the IU Football program’s success has been tremendous. Curt and Manette Cignetti are home in Indiana and we are delighted that the Cignetti family will be Hoosiers for many years to come.”

Indiana has nothing to worry about regarding its head coach. He is fully bought in and will be laser-focused on trying to lead the Hoosiers to a second straight championship.
