It’s no surprise to hear that the New York Yankees are firmly in the race for the Cody Bellinger sweepstakes. In fact, they are probably seen as the favorites to land the former NL MVP, but other top spenders like the Dodgers, Mets, and Blue Jays have also been linked to Bellinger. Bellinger remains one of the top two outfield free agents on the market, right behind Kyle Tucker.
With the offseason being so slow in the Bronx, it’s important that the Yankees retain Bellinger, or else they will be searching to replace his production in some other way. On Thursday, Yankees beat writer Brendan Kuty reported that the Yankees’ contract offer to Cody Bellinger was north of $30 million AAV (average annual value).

Yankees Offer Cody Bellinger, But There’s Still a Gap in Contract Talks
The report from Kuty indicates that the Bellinger’s camp is continuing to push for a seven-year deal, which might be the final hurdle in a potential deal:
“The New York Yankeesâ latest multi-year contract offer to free-agent outfielder Cody Bellinger featured an average annual value of more than $30 million a year as Bellingerâs camp continued to push for seven years, multiple sources briefed on the ongoing talks told The Athletic on Thursday.”

If Cody Bellinger ends up receiving a contract worth north of $30 million AAV, he will become one of the five-highest-paid outfielders in MLB, according to AAV.
Cody Bellinger is a Scott Boras client, who is notorious for ringing out every penny from potential suitors for his top clients, but Bellinger comes with a special type of value because he can play all three outfield spots and first base. The Yankees might be more comfortable with a four-or-five year deal.

Will the Yankees Sign Cody Bellinger?
The Yankees certainly have to be considered the favorite to land the two-time All-Star outfielder at this point, considering the reports of the contract offers they’ve made him already.
Cody Bellinger hit 29 home runs in pinstripes last season and appeared to be very comfortable hitting in Yankee Stadium. However, there have been other reports that indicate other National League teams like the Dodgers and Mets are also being apart of the Bellinger sweepstakes.
Along with the 29 home runs in 2025, Bellinger drove in 98 runs, hit .272, and posted an OPS+ of 125.
BaseballReference.com predicts Cody Bellinger to hit 23 home runs in 2026 with 24 doubles and 86 RBIs.
According to Spotrac , his market value is six years, $182 million, which rounds out perfectly to what the Yankees reportedly offered the 30-year-old outfielder.
If the Yankees presumably aren’t budging on committing to Bellinger for seven seasons, it will be interesting to see if Boras & Bellinger are okay with a slightly higher AAV ($32-35 million) and a couple of fewer years on what would still be a massive deal.
