The Cleveland Browns announced a flurry of roster moves ahead of their Week 14 matchup with the Tennessee Titans.
The most significant move by the Browns was placing veteran defensive tackle Maliek Collins on injured reserve, ending his season. Collins suffered a quad injury in a 26-8 loss to the San Francisco 49ers and was carted off the field.
“When you lose a guy like Maliek, you don’t replace him. You know, everybody’s just got to step up. It’s multiple guys that have to step up, but he’s made a big impact on this football team, on the field and off the field,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said earlier in the week. “I think our young room, we have some older guys in there, but we have a bunch of you guys in there. I think they’ve learned out from the professional that Maliek is on a day-in, day-out basis, and I think you have to carry that with you throughout.”
With Collins out, the Browns signed defensive tackle Sam Kamara to the active roster. He has appeared in 24 career games, including 16 games with the Browns over the last three seasons.
The Browns also made some moves with their practice squad. The team signed defensive tackle Simeon Barrow Jr., guard Jack Conley, running back Ahmani Marshall and linebacker Mark Robinson to the practice squad. The club also placed defensive end Julian Okwara on practice squad/injured and released linebacker Eugene Asante from the practice squad.
Browns Dealing With Offensive Line Injuries
As they have for most of the season, the Browns are dealing with injuries on the offensive line . Right tackle Jack Conklin suffered a concussion against the 49ers — his second of the season — and former All-Pro offensive guard Wyatt Teller will miss Week 14 with a calf injury.
Teller rotated snaps with Teven Jenkins against the 49ers, although he said it wasn’t due to injury .
“Team first, Coach asked me to rotate and I’ll do what he asks,” Teller said. “Probably along the lines of not playing well enough. I feel like that’s obvious, but there’s a lot of stuff that, as a player, I need to improve on.”
Stefanski said he spoke with Teller prior to the game and communicated the plan.
“With decisions like that, I always make sure I talk to our players and let them know what I’m thinking,” Stefanski said. “I felt like it would help Wyatt play better, and obviously, I think Teven’s deserving of some plays. And I thought both guys played really well yesterday.”
Browns Sticking With QB Shedeur Sanders
The Browns will continue to roll with Shedeur Sanders at quarterback against the Titans and it’s a big spot for the fifth-round rookie. He’ll go up against No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward, who has struggled with the one-win Titans.
Sanders is 1–1 as a starter this season, flashing playmaking ability but still searching for consistent rhythm in the passing game. Despite the growing pains, head coach Kevin Stefanski has been encouraged by the rookie’s trajectory and believes extended reps will accelerate his development.
“Shedeur had some really good moments in that football game. There are things that he wants back that we’re coaching up right now that he can improve upon. But bottom line is we have to continue to put our players in position to succeed,” Stefanski said. “For the young quarterback, you only get better with more turns at this thing in these games, as you see more coverages, as you see more defenses and as you prepare versus different defenses. So just looking forward to that constant improvement with Shedeur and for all of our young players.”
The Browns are a 4.5-point home favorite against the Titans.
