49ers Get Update on Brock Purdy Injury Timeline Ahead of Rams Game

November 9, 2025 by Heavy

The San Francisco 49ers are currently in action against the Los Angeles Rams in a wildly important NFC West clash. However, they are once again without their starting quarterback, Brock Purdy, as he continues to deal with a lingering toe injury. In his place, Mac Jones will draw his eighth start of the year.

Jones has been playing so well that it has allowed San Francisco to take its time when it comes to getting Purdy back on the field, but at some point, the Niners are going to want to have their franchise quarterback under center. Ahead of the team’s clash with the Rams, a big update on Purdy’s injury status emerged that will catch fans’ attention.

Purdy capped his improbable rise to superstardom over the offseason when he signed a five-year, $265 million contract extension with the Niners. And yet, he’s only managed to suit up for two games since putting pen to paper on this deal, thanks to a toe injury he suffered back in Week 1. After returning to play in Week 4, Purdy hasn’t taken the field since, with Jones starring in his absence.

With San Fran posting a 5-2 record in the games Jones has started in place of Purdy, there hasn’t been much of a need to rush the big-money passer back into action. That has allowed Purdy ample time to get healthy, but with each passing week he misses, more and more questions about his status begin to pop up.

Purdy was questionable for the team’s game against the Rams, and while he ultimately did not get the start over Jones, he appears to be making progress towards a return to the field. Sure enough, reports indicate that the team is hopeful Purdy will be able to play in Week 11 , although they are refusing to commit to him as their starter so far in advance.

“I checked with somebody with the team who said he is getting a lot closer,” Jeremy Fowler said on “SportsCenter.” “They’re hopeful that if it’s not this week, it will definitely be next week. That’s at least the loose plan right now.”

Should the 49ers Be Concerned About Brock Purdy’s Injury?

For weeks, the 49ers have been teasing Purdy’s return, only to continue leaning on Jones. The team has managed to keep on winning, but the more time Purdy misses, the more concerned fans are going to become. However, after missing several weeks of action, it appears as if Purdy’s return may just be right around the corner.

Losing to the Rams in Week 10 would certainly incentivize the Niners to try and find a way to get Purdy back, and while there is still a lot of football left to be played, they trail L.A. 21-0 early in this contest. Regardless of what ends up happening in this game, though, it will be worth keeping tabs on Purdy’s status throughout the week as he attempts to finally make his return to action in Week 11.
