Detroit Lions placing LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin on injured reserve

The Lions’ young linebacker will miss the final four games with a pestering neck injury.

Another Detroit Lions player’s season is over a month before the regular season ends. Matt Patricia announced on Wednesday that second-year linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin is being placed on injured reserve because of a neck injury.

Reeves-Maybin has had a nagging neck injury since Week 9. He was able to play against the Panthers and last week against the Rams , but clearly the injury was too much for him to play through for the remaining four games.

It’s a disappointing end to an underwhelming second season for Reeves-Maybin . The 2017 fourth-round pick only played a total of 110 defensive snaps this season, and could never overtake free agent addition Christian Jones as the team’s starting Will linebacker. For the season, Reeves-Maybin had just 13 total tackles. That being said, the Lions will have to find someone to take his place on special teams. When active, Reeves-Maybin has played in at least 15 special team snaps per game.

With the open roster spot, the Lions are adding defensive end Eric Lee to the 53-man roster. Lee was waived a couple weeks back after the Lions added special teamer Don Carey. Prior to being waived, Lee made five game appearances for Detroit. He had just two tackles in those games. To take Lee’s place on the practice squad, the Lions have added defensive tackle John Atkins .
